A global digital platform supports KK Group’s international growth

Summary

KK Group partnered with Columbus to create a standardised global core platform based on Microsoft technology. The platform supports international growth by helping the company integrate acquisitions, strengthen shared processes and data, and build a stronger foundation for automation and AI.

Watch the video below to hear KK Group and Columbus share their perspectives on the project, including KK Group’s growth journey, the decisions behind its platform strategy and how close collaboration helped make the transformation a success.

The challenge

KK Group had a clear direction and bold growth ambitions. Following its acquisition by A.P. Møller Holding, the company – formerly known as KK Wind Solutions – set out on an ambitious global expansion strategy across Europe and Asia.

But its digital foundation could not support that journey.

“At the time, our digital platform simply wasn’t built for global growth,” says  Ole Damsgaard, former CIO at KK Group. “And we had no intention of running multiple core systems as we acquired and integrated new companies.”

KK Group needed a fundamental shift:

“We had to elevate our digital setup and establish a common, standardised, and globally aligned foundation. It needed to support acquisitions, work across borders, navigate diverse regulatory environments, and at the same time be technologically modern and ready for automation and AI.”

The solution

KK Group partnered with Columbus to define and implement a future-ready platform based on Microsoft technology.

The result: a standardised global core platform, built on evergreen principles that continuously evolve with KK Group’s business as new capabilities are added.

Our ambition was simple: one global core platform and a standard framework that could be rolled out and scaled across markets without friction.
Bo Heesche Pedersen, CDO at KK Group

“It enables shared master data and allows us to continuously add capabilities like automation and AI,” says Bo Heesche Pedersen.

Beyond technology, the approach was equally important:

“The platform covers our entire business, and our global IT organisation can manage it centrally. Columbus took the time to truly understand our business and guided us in the right direction. They helped us see our core platform not just as a support function, but as a strategic driver for growth—and that perspective has been crucial.”

The results

The platform has supported KK Group’s efforts to standardise processes and integrate new companies more efficiently as part of the company’s international growth.

  • Revenue grew from approximatelyDKK 2 billion to approximatelyDKK 8 billion
  • Workforce grew from approximately1,200 to 4,000 employees
  • Full transparency across global processes and shared data
  • Stable operations and clear ownership
  • A significantly stronger foundation for automation and AI

“The core platform is now a prerequisite for our global growth and success,” says Bo Heesche Pedersen.

The results are not driven by technology alone—they are built on partnership.

We’ve worked with Columbus as one team. There’s been open and honest dialogue throughout. They’ve not only delivered, but also challenged us, advised us, and contributed strategically.
